Director of Urban Design Studio, Northern California

Urban Design Studio (UDS), a distinct division of RBF Consulting, focuses on the revitalization and urban design needs of communities and is welcoming inquiries from experienced and talented urban designers to contribute to the broad array of UDS revitalization services. Many communities acknowledge UDS as a leading Western U.S. firm in the areas of downtown and neighborhood revitalization, streetscape design, community involvement, development codes, and design guidelines.

UDS is seeking a talented senior-level Urban Designer to assume a leadership role as the director of our Northern California UDS (including offices in San Jose, Walnut Creek, Monterey Bay and Sacramento). Applicants for the Director will have 12+ years of experience with demonstrated leadership in the field of urban design, architecture or landscape architecture. A Bachelor’s degree in a field associated with Urban Design, Urban Planning, Architecture or Landscape Architecture is required. The senior-level Urban Designer selected for this opportunity will be expected to:

• Lead and manage urban design and revitalization projects of varying sizes in diverse communities.
• Make public presentations, facilitate community involvement efforts, and successfully lead competitive efforts for projects.
• Conduct urban design studies utilizing hand-drawing techniques, AutoCAD and/or other computer-based modeling.
• Author products, scopes of work, budgets and schedules.
• Provide mentorship to emerging young professionals.
• Champion innovations and emerging practice areas.
• Strategically collaborate with the Director of Urban Design Studio, Southern California.
• Expand Urban Design Studio's market share of planning, urban design, and revitalization projects in Northern California, Southern California and the Pacific Northwest.
