Best Planning Magazines

As a planning student in my second semester of grad school I thought it would be a good idea to subscribe to a couple of the more informative planning magazines. The only trouble is there are about 30 or so different ones. Does anyone have any advice or have a favorite magazine they would recommend? I'm basically looking for a general subject magazine since I'm not sure what area I will be specializing in. I've heard the APA Planning one is good and also American City and County Planning. Any other suggestions?

PLANNING MAGAZINES

There are a number of excellent magazine or newsletters available from APA. Of course, becoming a member of APA automatically gets you a subscription to their Plannning magazine (students have discounted membership fee), as well as your state chapter of APA. All of their other publications require separate subscription, such as the excellent Zoning Practice ($85/month). I find the Journal of the American Planning Association too esoteric. I would hope that your grad school library has all of these and more available for students.

As already mentioned, the APA magazine is very good, and covers a broad range of topics. I also like the Planning Commissioner's Journal. I think it is very practical and covers very relevant topics.

Most planning schools libraries (or schools of architecture) have a great selection of planning magazines available for free to read. I'd suggest spending some time in the library and browsing to see what you like.
