Hardscrabble Braddock, and the Mayor That Won't Give Up

Braddock is a town that lost 90% of its population in the aftermath of the steel industry's collapse. NPR's Jack Lyden talks with mayor John Fetterman about his efforts to revitalize the area.

John Fetterman is a mayor who has garnered a substantial amount of media attention lately for his efforts to bring urban homesteaders to Braddock, PA, a town devastated by the collapse of the steel industry. Although Braddock is commuting-distance from Pittsburgh, it lacks many amenities (like a cafe or sandwich shop) that people look for when moving. In this six-minute interview, Mayor Fetterman talks about the ways in which he is trying to attract to residents to Braddock and how he is working at uplift with the existing population.
