A Comeback For Historic Main Streets

A survey of 200 historic business districts finds that business is good, and property values are rising.

"Things are good. Thanks to the growth of e-commerce, sales are soaring. Storefronts and offices are filled with newly formed businesses, sending real estate prices surging ever higher. Sounds like a nostalgic look at the glory days of 1999. But that rosy scenario comes from the National Trust for Historic Preservation's brand-new Main Street Trends Survey, an annual snapshot of how companies located in historic downtown business districts are faring." The results are in sharp contrast to the difficulties being faced by technology companies and corporate America.
