In metropolitan Kansas City, two sales tax initiatives on the ballot in efforts to raise money for the region's long-planned light rail system.

"Funkhouser said voters approval of a 3/8-cent tax for light rail in Kansas City — plus a 1/2-cent tax in North Kansas City — would put the area “well on the way” to completing that regional system. The election is Nov. 4."

"As proposed, the starter route would run from near I-29 and Vivion Road through North Kansas City and downtown to the Country Club Plaza. It would run east — either along Cleaver or Volker Boulevards — to Bruce R. Watkins Parkway and south to 63rd Street."

"Funkhouser has been pushing a regional transit system for the Missouri side of the state line for months. In May, he unveiled a $1.2 billion plan that included five different types of transit services."
