Starting Salary Range $40,000 to $51,000 depending upon experience plus an excellent benefit package.

Bethlehem Township, population 25,000, is seeking an Assistant Director of Planning and Economic Development. This is a planning administration position in a fast growing fully planned community in eastern Pennsylvania located approximately 75 miles west of New York City and 65 miles northwest of the City of Philadelphia. Job duties are primarily related to Subdivision and Land Development/Zoning administration/project management. This position calls for a person who is self-motivated and self disciplined. The successful candidate will represent the Township at public hearings and meetings. Position reports to and assists the Township Director of Planning and Economic Development. Fundamental duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: review of subdivision and land development applications/plans; full administration of land development ordinances; conditional use application review and administration; performance of on-site field reviews; counter/customer service; special district planning; working with citizen groups; and work on various Township related planning projects as time permits.

Qualified applicants must possess the ability to assist in implementing a successful program related to the administration and enforcement of the Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance as well as other Township land use ordinances; present programs and ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; speak before public groups, elected officials and the public in general and exercise independent judgment and tact.

Qualified applicants will have knowledge of: current principles and practices of local government planning; recent development in the field of community planning; regulatory code enforcement practice; subdivision and land development plan interpretation; personal computer use including Microsoft Office, GIS and Internet applications.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning or a related field and at least three years of relevant experience; or a Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning or related field with two years of related experience. AICP certification is desired. All applicants must be able to pass a Township provided physical examination and drug test.
