Pilot programs in Los Angeles and Atlanta are using the Internet to help commuters.
"Out in Los Angeles, ground zero for traffic, commuters this week are registering to receive e-mails from a Web-based traffic service that will attempt to predict congestion up to an hour in advance. Already online is a related Internet site, created by a University of California at Berkeley professor and his students that gives commuters a real-time look at estimated travel times to different destinations."
