Denver has sprawl -- but also a counterweight to sprawl.
"Downtown Denver rode the 1990s boom from Skid Row to Easy Street. A dizzying crop of public investments and a back-to-the-city mentality helped Mile High City prove that population growth still can help build a town from within, not just on the outskirts. The Rocky Mountains' premier city swelled its suburbs just like everywhere else, but also gave rich new life to its long-decaying core."
