Its environmental and controlled growth policies attract people to Oregon.
"Most regions of the country are not willing to protect their environment by crowding themselves within urban growth boundaries as Oregonians have done since they passed a statewide land-use law in 1973, planners say. The law is not the nation's toughest, they say, but it is the most thoughtful. Because of it, Oregon has managed to protect its farms and natural treasures while at the same time creating a mix of livable towns, suburbs and cities..."
