What Happens When There Is No Planning

Sao Paulo, Brazil, the world's 4th-most-populous-city has opted out of long-range transportation planning. A disaster.

Because of the deplorable transportation system, the rich have taken to travelling in helicopters. This is a symbol of urban dysfunction. "Sao Paulo has sunk into a science fiction-like murk of traffic, pollution and crime." Having failed to plan for or combat the transportation crisis, the elite avoid it by taking to the air."

Most planning education providers are self-supporting and operate literally hand-to-mouth from course revenues. Because planners are not as wealthy as lawyers or doctors, we have to keep our costs down which makes our margins thin.
