Sprawl Attacks Civil War Sites

Gettysburg and other Civil War sites are among the nation's ten most endangered battlefields because of the threat of development and sprawl.

"Gettysburg, the Wilderness and Harpers Ferry have been listed among the nation's 10 most endangered battlefields because of the threat of development and sprawl, the Civil War Preservation Trust said Tuesday. This is the first time the 32,000 member Civil War Preservation Trust has compiled a list of endangered civil war sites. 'Without swift and decisive action, many of the sites listed in our report will be little more than a memory within a few years,' said Trust President James Lighthizer."
