Milwaukee transportation planners and consultants explore ideas to make a large highway reconstruction project more neighborhood-friendly.
"The idea is to find ways to make the Marquette Interchange's upcoming reconstruction more friendly to neighborhoods. The crumbling interchange, which connects I-94, I-794 and I-43, is due to be rebuilt between 2004 and 2008, at a cost of $550 million to $950 million." Ideas explored include creating wider spaces between the freeways support columns, using retaining and sound walls for public art, and creating urban gardens.
