Is New Urbanism The Answer To Sprawl?

New urbanist projects are turning up in unusual places. And the residents seem to love them.

"Harbor Town, just a decade old, is among the more mature developments that fall under the banner of New Urbanism, a catch-phrase development style that is touted by proponents as an antidote to sprawl, congestion and the isolation of suburban life.It is a mix of homes, apartments, condos and retail in the shadow of downtown Memphis. There's a grocery store, dry cleaner, pizza place and school within walking distance of the residential areas. Several people like Stanford interviewed said they love living there."

Its very unsuitability for an urban center justifies its current usage as a suburban or ex-urban pattern.
