Revitalization Vs. Preservation

The battle over a building in downtown Atlanta is the latest chapter in the struggle of developers versus preservationists.
"Seth Shapiro grills burgers in a tiny neighborhood diner in the afternoon shadow of the Glenn building. One day a couple of weeks ago, a pair of architects sat at one of his window tables, sketching plans and talking about what they could do with the 78-year-old office building across the street. The out-with-the-old and in-with-the-new debate is not unique to the Glenn building. It echoes across downtown landscapes nationwide. How best does a city transform stodgy central business districts that go dark at dusk into lively 24-hour urban neighborhoods? And at what cost?"
