Preserving California's Coastline

County officials and activists will lobby for millions in state conservation dollars to saving precious coastal wetlands.
As coastal development increases in spots such as Hunt ington Beach and Newport Coast, Orange County activists envision building another type of ocean community: homes for sea birds, fish and other wildlife. Dozens of residents brainstormed a wetlands "wish list" Wednesday, as they rushed to vie for millions of unclaimed preservation dollars from the state Coastal Conservancy.
