This announcement was posted by:
Department of Urban Planning, University of Illinois, U-C
Workshop will cover existing GIS standards in the U.S., emerging ISO GIS standards, and ongoing works by the Open GIS Consortium (OGC).
Why Learn GIS Standards?
The single most important reason for learning to use GIS standards is to insure that geospatial data are efficiently collected, used and shared. GIS standards are there to ease interpretation of a map, to agree upon a description of content and format of data, and to transfer data from a producer to the user and allow both to interpret the information in the same way. This workshop will cover existing GIS standards in the U.S., emerging ISO GIS standards, and ongoing works by the Open GIS Consortium (OGC).
Who Should Attend?
* Government Officials to learn compatibility with U.S. FGDC Standards
* National Government Officials to learn compatibility with ISO Standards
* GIS Managers who are concerned with Data Sharing
* GIS Specialists in International Organizations
* GIS Educators for introducing GIS Standards to students
