Smart Growth Finds Tradition An Obstacle

Realtors, along with Peter Calthorpe, comment on the current state of "smart growth" for the suburban and urban markets.

"Real estate agents have to understand that the same societal forces that are creating the smart-growth debate in the political arena also are affecting the kind of housing that consumers are looking for...Zoning codes designed to encourage low-density growth are a strait-jacketmandating one-size-fits-all housing in a community, even though builders realize that they have a marketing advantage by producing not only diversity but walkability."
