Despite Downturn, Landscape Architects Keep Busy
A national survey shows that despite the depression in the housing market, landscape architects across the U.S. continue to get work.
"A majority of landscape architects, nationally, remained busy in the first quarter of this year.
In the latest quarterly survey by the American Society of Landscape Architects, 55 percent of respondents said their billable hours are at or above average. In addition, 38 percent plan to hire additional more landscape architects in the current quarter. The survey queried 427 firms.
"Landscape architecture firms have turned to high-end residential work, commercial development and public sector projects to mitigate the slowdown from the housing market," said Nancy Somerville, executive vice president and CEO of ASLA."
