Principal Project Planner for Programming and Policy
The Principal Planner will be part of the team guiding the physical development of Harvard in Allston. Reporting to the Chief Planner, s/he will manage programming, analytical, physical & regulatory planning assignments including: programming & policy development for housing & other building types; analysis of economic development impacts to support planning & community projects; and campus & urban planning. Assists & supports the Chief Planner with coordinating the Planning Unit's workload by planning & monitoring staff workloads, helping set priorities, setting the agenda & leading unit coordination meetings; & connecting the unit's work with other ADG work. Manages 3 planners including: establishing workloads & priorities; providing content & strategic guidance; professional development; & feedback. Develops project plans, leads project teams & manages consultants. Works with other Harvard departments and ADG staff to ensure good intra & inter-departmental coordination. Supports internal/external committees. Manages oral, written & graphic communications. Work is team oriented & interdisciplinary. Other duties as assigned.
Basic Requirements: Grad degree in planning or related field. 10+ years of relevant experience. Exp. with community processes. Additional Requirements: In-depth knowledge of programming, physical, urban & regulatory planning & experience with economic/community development. 15 years of relevant exp. pref. Strategic thinker with strong analytical, research & problem solving skills. Staff management exp. with high level staff. Grasps & communicates complex ideas clearly & thinks creatively. Exp. developing planning communications, e.g. written reports, visual media & verbal presentations. Excellent writing, verbal, organizational and interpersonal skills. Meets deadlines, takes initiative & provides leadership. Works well in teams & independently. Univ. exp. pref. MS Office skills. GIS & graphics skills a plus.
