The office of Los Angeles City Councilmember José Huizar is immediately seeking a responsible and experienced urban planning professional to serve as Planning Deputy.

Council District 14 (CD14) covers culturally diverse, richly historic and tremendously revitalizing Los Angeles communities including Downtown, Boyle Heights, El Sereno, Eagle Rock, and parts of Mt. Washington, Highland Park and Glassell Park.

This full-time position is a responsible and integral part of the Council District 14 Planning Group staff which reports directly to the Councilmember’s Planning & Economic Development Director.

PLANNING DEPUTY DUTIES INCLUDE:
•Reviewing, researching and advising on a diverse range of planning, zoning, housing, economic development and environmental issues, projects, policies and proposals

•Monitoring the activity of relevant boards, commissions, committees and community groups; representing the Councilmember with public testimony and/or presentations as necessary

•Advancing district initiatives, projects and policies; coordinating with City departments & agencies

•Staffing the Councilmember at meetings and events

•Responding to constituent inquiries pertaining to relevant subject areas; coordinating with field staff to inform community of projects, proposals and opportunities for input

•Position is intended to grow to include staffing the Councilmember in his capacity as Vice-Chair of the City of Los Angeles Planning & Land Use Management Committee

•Other responsibilities as assigned

PLANNING DEPUTY KEY QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:
•2 to 3 years professional (non-student, post-college) experience in urban planning or related field

•Degree in urban planning, public policy or a related subject

•Direct working knowledge of City / local government & politics preferred

•Highly responsible and responsive with excellent follow through and organizational abilities

•Excellent written and oral communications skills; computer & technological proficiency

•Ability and strong desire to work as a part of a team in a fast-paced political environment

•Diversity is highly valued

SALARY & BENEFITS
Salary range $63,000 - $70,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Excellent City benefits package. This is an exempt, at-will (non civil service) position.
