Join a collaboration of Planners and Designers dedicated to making a difference in towns and cities throughout Washington State. This position focuses on community bicycle and pedestrian planning, design and implementation to aid in improving the safety, sustainability and economic vitality of communities. WSDOT welcomes inquiries from experienced and talented community planners and designers interested in contributing to the array of technical services we provide. Many communities acknowledge WSDOT’s Highways and Local Programs Division as a primary provider of technical services and innovations in the areas of transportation for community revitalization, streetscape design, community involvement, bicycle and pedestrian research, traffic engineering, and design guidance. WSDOT is seeking a talented senior-level planner or designer to assume a leadership role as the State Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator. Applicants for the position will have experience with demonstrated leadership in the field of urban design, architecture or landscape architecture. A Bachelor’s degree in a field associated with Urban Design, Urban Planning, Architecture or Landscape Architecture is required.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Urban Design or Urban Planning or a Bachelor’s degree in one of these disciplines and 12 months experience in the fields urban planning.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of current bicycle and pedestrian planning and design practice.
  • Consider and research alternative courses of action and make recommendations for action.
  • Communicate effectively both in the written and oral form. The ability to prepare and deliver high-quality presentations to the public and diverse audiences.
  • Be willing to travel extensively.

Compensation: $57,504 - $75,480 annually depending on qualifications
