Regional Planner

The Regional Planner performs a wide variety of professional and technical planning assignments. These programs address comprehensive land use as well as issues such as “smart or focused growth” in priority development areas, transit-oriented development, housing supply and affordability, land conservation, and environmental sustainability.
Duties include serving as county coordinator for FOCUS Priority Development and Priority Conservation Areas; gathering and tabulating data; conducting basic research, writing reports and presenting information; reviewing policies and legislation; drafting policy recommendations; representing the Association at various meetings; maintaining communication with related agencies, stakeholders and the public; providing staff support related to station Area Planning Grants
Successful candidate should possess desire to work as part of a team and have the ability to take initiative and exercise good judgment. Qualifications include knowledge of principles and practices of local and regional planning and development as well as transit-oriented and infill development; working knowledge of CEQA; excellent written and verbal communication skills; creative problem-solving; good organization and documentation skills; ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with agency partners. Familiarity with GIS and Access desirable.
Requires Bachelor’s degree with major course work in Urban Planning or a related field and minimum of two years of relevant professional experience. Master’s degree in Urban Planning or related field is highly desirable.
