Tulare County (pop. 400,000), located in California’s Central Valley and southern Sierra Nevada, is seeking an Assistant Resource Management Agency (RMA) Director - Planning. Reporting to the RMA Director, the Planning Director is responsible for managing the day to day functions of the Planning Services Branch of the RMA. Agency resources include six (6) branches, a $140 million operating budget, CIP of $300 million and a staff of over 500. The Planning Branch has a budget of $6.7 million and a staff 62. Future Planning projects include the development of a new town of 30,000 residents in the eastern foothills, other large projects and implementation of the new General Plan.

The ideal candidate will possess five years of progressively responsible professional and governmental planning experience, including three years of supervising professional and technical planners. The ability to develop cohesive working relationships within the RMA, the development community and the community-at-large coupled with a strong customer service focus and interactive leadership style will serve the chosen candidate well. Demonstrated budgeting, critical thinking, and extensive project management skills are also expected. A Bachelor’s degree in urban, regional or city planning or a related field is required. California experience is highly desirable.
