Chicago's Marina City Is Worth Saving

Chicago's Marina City towers are recognized around the world and should be granted landmark status to protect them says columnist Lee Bey.

"City officials will grant landmark status to at least a dozen buildings and sites this year. Chances are, Marina City won't be one of them. It's a shame. The twin residential towers of Marina City are among the handful of local buildings known across the globe. Built between 1959 and 1967, the complex was designed as a modernist city-within-a-city with residences, offices, a movie theater, a studio and--of course--a marina...Marina City was visionary work that foretold how people would remain in the city if given something different."
