Senior Planner
Teller County is seeking an innovative and detail-oriented Senior Planner whose main focus is on administering the long-range planning functions for Teller County such as 1) developing and directing long-range planning projects, including small-area plans and countywide master plan updates, 2) special studies relating to land use, transportation, drainage, mineral extraction, and environmental quality, and 3) planning group facilitation. The Senior Planner also assists the Division Director in representing the County on planning matters to County, State and Federal departments and agencies, regional councils, municipalities, special districts, residents, businesses and professional organizations, attends meetings and prepare reports, reviews existing land use regulations and develops amendments based on information provided by the Planning Commission, staff, public, statutory requirements, and new legislation. The Senior Planner also assists when the current planning workload warrants. The successful candidate is able to demonstrate a theoretical and practical understanding of land use issues and modern planning practices and a knowledge of Colorado Statutes relative to planning as well as other state and federal land use laws, typical development regulations governing zoning, subdivisions, flood-plain management, infrastructure development, knowledge of planning case law and has excellent problem solving, project management, and time management skills. Well-developed interpersonal skills are necessary and an ability to adapt and respond to changing conditions and demands is advised. A background in real estate development/transactions is helpful. Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree, Master’s desirable, in planning or a closely related field, with a minimum of three years of increasingly responsible experience in a similar or related position.
