Intermediate Urban Designer
VIA Architecture is looking for an Intermediate Urban Designer to become an integral member of the practice’s Urban Design + Planning sector. Current projects include masterplanning for a sustainable hillside community, planning for a historic downtown, designing residential infill guidelines and principles for a mature neighbourhood, and leading urban density strategies in a growing interior community.
This sector specializes in urban strategy, development planning, transit and TOD design, community and municipal guidelines and visioning, and public realm design. The creation of sustainable city environments directs all our work. Having guided some of the most notable projects in the region, including Southeast False Creek and the Vancouver Olympic Village, Evergreen LRT Urban Design, and the Whitecaps Waterfront Stadium, we pride ourselves in the ability to tackle difficult and complex projects.
The Urban Design + Planning team has a strong interface and crossover with the architectural work going on in the firm.
We are looking for a person with:
• A Master’s Degree in Urban Design or alternatively, Architecture, Urban Planning, or Landscape Architecture with a strong focus on urban design.
• A minimum of 3 years experience.
• Demonstrated excellence in urban design concepts, strategies, and visualization.
• Analytical and computer skills, SketchUp, Adobe CS, and AutoCAD are preferred.
• Freehand sketching capability would be an asset.
• A passion for urban design, city building, and imagining.
The successful applicant must be highly-motivated and possess strong vision – an ability to work on multiple projects concurrently is also important.
VIA Architecture offers generous compensation and extended medical benefits. We are located in the Yaletown neighbourhood of downtown Vancouver and offer potential travel and exchange with our office in Seattle, WA.
