Nation's Fastest-Growing Region And New Urbanism

Las Vegas faces air pollution, traffic congestion, and scarce water supplies. But the city's mayor, an unlikely New Urbanist, has big plans.
"The 2000 census shows that the LasVegas metropolitan area remains the fastest-growing region in thecountry, adding about 70,000 peoplea year to a population of 1.4 million.Mayor Goodman...wants the core of his city to have 'some culture,' as he calls it, and a monorail, restaurants, apartments, grocery stores, bookstores, boutiques, a stadium, a high tech center, a museum, an art school - in other words, the vital mix of ingredients that make up a healthydowntown. He wants all of this to happen soon - or else."
