A Look at L.A.'s Density Bonus
This segment from Which Way, L.A.? discusses Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's density bonus plans.
"California is not the magnet it once was, but the Southern California Association of Governments insists that population growth will continue—with a total of 13 million people in LA County by 2050. In the city of LA, forget about single-family homes with backyards. Mayor Villaraigosa is promoting what he calls 'elegant density.' The City Council has given developers a break on parking and allowed them to override existing zoning if they include affordable housing."
Guests discussing the issue are Beth Steckler, Policy Director at Livable Places, Joel Kotkin, Irvine Fellow at the New America Foundation, and Bill Fulton, Publisher of the California Planning & Development Report.
