Schools and housing - mixed use

For several years now I have been interested in the idea of housing on school sites, primarily provided for teachers.
I am an urban planner in NZ and teachers aren't that well paid here. A bigger city like Auckland struggles to keep teachers because they can earn the same amount in a smaller town where housing is much cheaper.
Here, we also face big problems with school vandalism
So, I figure, why not provide limited amounts of housing on larger school sites?
It will help provide subsidised housing for teachers, minimise transport movements, allow for greater 24 hour informal surveillance of school sites, hopefully leading to less vandalism, and make more efficient use of the huge area of urban land dedicated to school use
however I have struggled to find any evidence on the internet (searching "School housing" etc)of cities or educational bodies that have promoted such policy
Just wondering if anyone out there knows of situations where some housing has been encouraged on school sites (other than student housing in the case of boarding schools)
