CA Reconsiders Its Approach To Land Conservation
California should reconsider its approach to land conservation and possibly redefine the role of the state conservancies.
The California Legislative Analyst's Office released a report of findings and recommendations regarding the state's land conservation efforts. The report says that although the stateconservancies have been successful in preserving specific parcels of land in California, the lack of a statewide program for land conservation has made it difficult to assess the program's overall effectiveness. The LAO suggests that the conservancies concentrate onprotecting larger parcels of "statewide significance" rather than smaller, more scattered parcels. Additionally, the state should reconsider its approach to land conservation and possibly redefine the role of the state conservancies.
