Firm Builds Vegas-style Mass Transit

A four-mile monorail system linking Las Vegas' major hotels and convention center to the airport is the "only public transportation project in the history of North America that's being built without any federal money or subsidy."

"[Public] transportation in the United States is perceived asa punishment. Everybody wants to build more transportation for everyone else to use so they have more room on the freeway." But the attitude is different in Las Vegas where construction begins on a sleek monorail project demonstrating that public transportation can be "seen as a venue for investment by private industry."
