"The three-hour PBS program 'The First Measured Century,'tells the story of America by the numbers through the eyes ofthose who did the measuring and the interpreting, often inhighly controversial and unusual circumstances." The show includes discussions of urban, rural, and suburban population trends, census, immigration, mobility, poverty, transportation, the growth of cities, and more. Companion website includes a timeline, charts, program segments, quotes, a video clip, and references. The show premieres on PBS Wednesday, December 20th, 2000 from 8:30 to 11:30 PM (Check local listings).
