Planned TOD Beats Long-Range Predictions

Planners didn't think it would happen for 10 years, but transit-oriented development looks to be brewing near new light rail stations in Charlotte, North Carolina.
"City planners thought it could take up to 10 years for the southernmost stations along the light-rail line to attract transit-oriented development."
"Yet that's happening even before the inauguration of the service."
"Harris' developments, with high-density mixes of apartments, condominiums and townhomes, will offer an urban lifestyle well outside the increasingly expensive center city, says Debra Campbell, city planning director. They'll also reduce pressures for redevelopment in existing single-family neighborhoods in south Charlotte, she says."
