Growing Smarter: Smart Growth In Atlanta

Urban Land Institute's Partners for Smart Growth Conference is being held in Atlanta, a city where the debate over the concept continues.
"Save for one apartment complex built on top of a few shops in north Atlanta, the types of projects developers and planners call 'smart growth' are largelystill on the drawing boards...People who resist "smart growth," and the higher-density projects it implies, argue that people are not going to leave their cars in the future and that the single-occupancy vehicle will still be king 20 years from now. There's evidence that the love affair with the car is a long way from cooling."
