Suggest a Urban Planning (Poverty) Job ?

In brief, I am from India and currently a Doctoral Candidate (final year, expecting a PhD in March 2008) at International Development and Regional Planning Unit, The University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan. Holds a Masters in Planning (M. Plan) from School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, India. To widen my management skilled I am also pursuing Masters of Business Administration (MBA), from IGNOU, Delhi, India. My current (PhD) research topic is related to identification and improvement of vulnerable spaces like slums. (Case Study –Indian States & Bhopal City) Objective is to highlight the role of communities (as per socio economic conditions) and their choices towards the development projects for sustainability. Categorization of slum settlements into various categories is another vital aspect of my research with an aim to identify the most vulnerable spaces and set priorities to the decisions makers for the development purpose. Another important contribution is identification of major factors that are responsible for slum formation in Indian States with an objective to control the mushrooming of slums in the nation.

I have a work experience of more than 6 years in development & planning involving research, policy planning, analysis and forecasting. It includes a 4 year working experience in a UNDP – GOI (Govt. of India) programme. During the program dealt with the various projects dealing with various issue of regional development. The major responsibilities includes formulation, planning, identification of cities and type of projects, monitoring & execution, capacity building, assessment & evaluation, documentation & dissemination of the projects undertaken in 6 Indian cities, Bhopal, Calicut, Tiruvannamalai, Mumbai, Itanagar & Delhi. Exposure and study of the projects and policies adopted in developing nation like Egypt, South Africa, Vietnam, Indonesia, Bangladesh, China and the developed nation like Japan. Wide experience in management, evaluation and coordination of small & large-scale projects. Experience of working with local bodies, NGO’s, academic institutions, industries, research organization etc. Experience in multi-sectoral development programme and project implementation.

Presented more than 15 papers in esteem conferences. One of my papers also received the 2nd Outstanding Paper Award in an International Conference -China Planning Network, Beijing, China, June 2006 and another paper “Inner Truth of Slums in Mega Cities” is due for a publication as one of a chapter in a book “World Cities and Urban Form: fragmented, polycentric, sustainable?” edited by Prof. Mike Jenks, OISD, Oxford Brookes University, UK.

In short, I have a practical work experience that includes diversified responsibilities like financial management, documentation, dissemination, capacity building, monitoring & evaluation, coordination, project management, social development etc. and at the same time also has a research aptitude that is being reflected by my doctoral course and research papers.
