The largest U.S. tanker spill in a decade involving half a million gallons of crude caused a shutdown of Mississippi ship traffic and set off a large cleanup effort to protect the environment.
"A half-million gallons of oil flooded the lower MississippiRiver after a tanker lost power and ran aground...More than 30 ships and 100 workers are expected to continue work for at least the next three days in the cleanup and containment effort, officials said."
