Orlando Says Yes To Commuter Rail Plan
4 August 2007 - 1:00pm
The proposed 61-mile system connection -- which will provide an alternative to commuters on the congested Interstate 4 corridor -- has been given the green light by local officials.
"Central Florida commuter rail is ready to roll.
Final local approval came Tuesday, nearly eight years after Orange County rejected a rail system by a single vote and almost 18 years after a commission first formed to promote the idea for the region.
Although residents may not see dirt flying to build stations, construct parking lots and lay new tracks until the middle of 2008, the long-awaited rail project can now begin."
