L.A. Area Makes Big Air-pollution Gains
30 November 2000 - 9:30am
In the last five years, smoggy Southern California has made significant gains in fighting air pollution.
"In 1995, air in Los Angeles County was rated unhealthful 28 percent of the timeunder the Pollution Standards Index. That fell to 5 percent last year. Gains have been made throughout the South Coast air basin, which includes Los Angeles, Orange and parts of Riverside and San Bernardino counties. In the last decade the number of days with ozone pollution readings in the region over the federal standard fell sharply, from 130 in 1990 to 41 last year."

Its very unsuitability for an urban center justifies its current usage as a suburban or ex-urban pattern.
