Maryland Fights Back Against Sprawl

Maryland battles back urban sprawl with some of the toughest anti-sprawl measures in the nation.

The small state of Maryland loses open land the size of Manhattan to urban sprawl every year. "But while states such as Colorado, Virginia, Arizona and Georgia seem to be caught flatfooted by sprawling development, Maryland has put up its dukes against it. Sparked by 1990s outcry over development around the Chesapeake, Marylandwound up creating some of the country's best anti-sprawl legislation."
