Best Places To Live 2000

Money Magazine publishes its ranking of the best places to live. The magazine considers urban sprawl in its rankings.

The big winners of Money Magazine's Best Places To Live 2000 competition are Portland (OR), Providence (RI), Chicago (IL), Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill (NC), Salt Lake City (UT) and Sarasota (FL). The article compares cities and the cost of living. One of the criteria includes: "areas that have avoided urban sprawl and overcrowding, where city fathers have put a premium on green space, culture and having an accessible city center."
