Juvenile Detention Facility

Greetings,

I am seeking insights into the siting of a juvenile detention facility and impacts on the surrounding area. The proposed site is in the central business district (downtown) of a small midwestern town. Typical of such places, city hall, county courthouse and district court are already major uses in the area, with a variety of service and retail uses, apartments and established single family neighborhoods nearby.

Has anyone had experience with such a situation they could reflect upon? My instinct tells me to treat this similar to any other public use, and assume that negative impacts would be limited. Any experiences on public perception of such a use?

Thanks,
