International Employment

Hi,

I will be finishing up a diploma in Urban Studies shortly and am very interested in working overseas. I have 4 months experience working for a municipal government in the planning department. Are there any good resources to help with my search? Are there any planners from North America (Canada specifically) that have gone abroad?

Thanks for any tips or hints,

Doug

Do those who take this course have a good track record of getting work in Australia?

Is there someone I could contact for more information about the course?

Has anyone taken this or other courses? Any opinions?

working overseas and planning in Australia

Hi Doug,

not too many people have been through the course at this stage, as it's only just had its first outing. It was written specifically to "bridge the cultural gap" to assist already qualified professionals to work in the Australian context. At the present time, there are negotiations occurring for cross recognition of planners between Australia and the USA, and there is currently a shortage of planners in Australia. Municipal councils, particularly in regional areas, find it difficult to attract staff. By all means let me know if you would like some further information.

Angus,

I will be finishing school in April/May 2008 with approx. 8 months experience in a municipal environment. Would you give me good odds of finding an employer in Australia willing to train or hire at the entry-level or would I need to gain more experience here in Vancouver before looking abroad? I would be happy to work in the regional areas that are short staff!

Any suggetions or tips would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Doug

What kind of track record does this course have with regards to those who've completed it and gained employment in Australia? Is there a contact I could get a hold of for more information?

Is there anyone reading this who has taken any of the courses? Any opinions?

Thank you,

Doug
