Satellites Could Track Vehicles, Collect Fees

Some states are developing a system that uses Global Positioning System satellites to implement a better way to fund highway construction.
"Imagine getting a bill for driving. Not a toll levied every few miles, but amonthly credit card-like statement that details the number of miles you droveon state, county and city roads.Strange as it may sound, this could be the future of transportation funding inMinnesota some years down the road. Transportation planners say the change from the current gasoline excise taxes to GPS-based mileage taxes should ensure adequate funding for road construction and also reduce congestion."
