Washington Begins Construction Of WW2 Memorial

Winning design selected from 400 entries in nationwide competition but chosen site is controversial and opposition to the project is strong.
" Unfortunately, the chosen site is fraught with controversy. It abuts 17th Street between Constitution and Independence Avenues with the Washington Monument to its east and the Lincoln Memorial and Reflecting Pool to its west. Undoubtedly, this is the most sensitive axial sight-line in all of America. "
