More and more suburban Illinois communities are streaming their public hearings over the web, enabling more people to follow their local democratic process -- a trend being seen across the country.

"Beach Park recently joined a handful of Illinois communities that stream live video of meetings on the Web -- a technological trend that government experts say is growing."

"Chicago is among the cities studying technology that would let viewers watch democracy in action from home."

"While many municipalities have long aired meetings on local cable television, posting the video online lets viewers anywhere watch. It also gives users the luxury of not having to sit through an entire meeting or wait for it to air on TV. Visitors can scroll to an agenda item of a taped meeting, view what they're most interested in and ignore the rest."
