Candidates' Opposition To Redevelopment Plan Garners Voter Support
The feelings of city council candidates about a downtown revitalization plan appears to have the most sway over voters in El Paso, Texas, who are making large contirbutions to those opposing the plan.
"Support for candidates in the May 12 election who openly oppose the potential use of eminent domain and other aspects of the plan is, perhaps, the most obvious aspect of the contributions in the campaign finance reports filed Thursday."
"Meanwhile, traditional and heavier campaign contributors are giving heavily to the two incumbents who support the plan."
"'What you're seeing is the Downtown community as a whole is very opposed to the continual threats of eminent domain abuse, and we're all responding accordingly,' plan opponent Jerry Rosenbaum said. 'The way things are being done Downtown is a sample of the way things will be done in the future.'"
