Is Smoke-Free Housing The Wave Of The Future?
New data suggests that demand for smoke-free apartment buildings is increasing, and landlords who ban smoking can expect a positive impact on business.
Two new studies based in Ontario confirm strong demand for smoke-free housing, and are "the first hard data on how people feel about second-hand smoke in multifamily communities."
"Globe General Agencies, one of the largest multifamily owners in western Canada, has waiting lists for smoke-free buildings it began offering in fall 2006."
"In the United States, this new trend of voluntary, market-driven smoke-free housing is growing as well. In Michigan, more than 6,000 apartments have gone smoke-free, with landlords reporting no downside, according to Jim Bergman of the Smoke-free Environments Law Project in Ann Arbor, Mich."
