Millions Ride on Prop. 35
What is Prop. 35? Why have private companies contributed $11.5 million to try to convince voters to approve it?
"Proposition 35 is a constitutional amendment that would make it easier for the state to contract out design and engineering jobs. Supporters argue that it could mean more highway construction projects finished more quickly. Opponents, financially supported by the state government engineers' union, say the state already contracts out needed programs and that giving out more multimillion-dollar contracts to the groups behind the initiative could open the bidding process to corruption."
