Houston's Light Rail Forges Ahead

Houston Metropolitan Tranit Authority will build light rail with or without federal funds.
Houston's Metropolitan Transit Authority announced plans to pay for the Metro's light rail project without the $65 million in federal funds it had hoped to obtain. U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay, R-Sugar Land, inserted a clause in the transportation appropriations bill that bars Metro from spending any federal dollars on rail in fiscal year 2001
