Car-Free...With A Free Car

"I was one of the founding members (No. 9) of the Calgary Alternative Transportation Co-operative and am currently its co-chair. We now have more than 140 members sharing seven cars through a web-based reservation system. I've used a combination of bicycling, car sharing, carpooling, rentals and public transit for all my transportation needs since 2000 and get a lot of satisfaction from it. I've sometimes gone more than a month without getting into a motor vehicle."
"Welcome to Environmentalists Anonymous: My name is Bob. I am a non-car guy."
"[And] on a wintry Wednesday night, Jan. 31, I got a phone call from the Foothills Swimming Association announcing I had won their raffle for a 1.6-litre 2006 Mini Cooper worth $32,000 retail."

Good outcome
I'm glad the writer decided to sell the car. If he can live and getting around fine with the hassle the expense of the car, then why own the thing.
Selling it and using the money to help the car-sharing coop and give himself a little nest egg was the smart thing to do.
